Quran Khawani is a breakthrough Application (“App”) that is designed to leverage social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter), as well as email, to invite family and friends to collectively recite the Holy Quran – regardless of one’s geographical location.
Traditionally, the recitation of the Holy Quran (“Quran”) is carried out to garner divine blessings for important life events (i.e., child birth, wedding, graduation, quest for a job, prayer for loved ones health, etc.). More commonly, however, Quran Khawani is collectively carried out in respect of the dearly departed – a sincerest form of supplication for the intended in his or her afterlife. This blessed activity entails gathering of friends and family at the local mosque, public hall, or inviting party’s home at a specified date and time. The number of Qurans (and their respective Ajzā or Paras) are selected for their full recitation based on the number of attendees – larger gatherings call for more Qurans to be recited. Each individual attendee selects a Juz or Para from a pile of unread stack, completes it, and then returns it to the completed stack. All of the Qurans are recited by reading individual Juz or Para individually, and repeatedly, until the entire recitation of all the Qurans is completed.
Although more intimate, this traditional method makes it very difficult for family members and friends who are geographically dispersed to attend in person. The Quran Khawani App solves this dilemma by enabling the App users to invite family and friends via Facebook, Twitter, and email – breaking the barrier of physical distances, all the while adhering to the tenets and principles of performing collective Quran recitation remotely/virtually on mobile devices (i.e., smartphones, tablets).
Vajdan, LLC (“Vajdan”) has taken exceptional care in ensuring that full essence of Quran recitation practice, traditionally carried out in person, is captured in this App – in form, function, and religious spirit. App user has the flexibility of selecting the number of Qurans to be recited, set a time limit on when the recitation is to be completed, and invite family/friends via integrated Facebook or Twitter accounts (both the inviter and the invitee must have a valid Facebook or Twitter account). Lastly, the user can also send an email from within the App – either to the selected contacts built into the user’s mobile device or by typing the email address. All recipients receive a link to the App, which the recipient can click to reach the download page for the App – unless, of course, the recipient already has the Quran Khawani App installed on his or her mobile device.
All App users participating in a group Quran recitation have the flexibility to select available Juz or Para that has not been recited. if a user is unable to complete the selected Juz or Para, the user can simply mark the location and return the Juz back into the pool or unread Ajzā (check-in), which can subsequently be retrieved (check-out) by the individual himself or another participants so that the number of Qurans elected by the inviting party can be recited in their entirety. This check-in/check-out feature is revolutionized by Vajdan, which enables all participants a tremendous flexibility of taking a break during their recitation – all the while assuring that every single page of all the Qurans requested for completion are read.
